Just some info on Drew:
Hello, I’m Drew.
As a child I took piano lessons, in middle school I spent time in band class on the trombone and later played the tuba for concert and marching band a couple of years in high school. After high school I attended automotive tech school at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Later, after my move to Austin Texas, I attended a seminary extension program for Christian ministries through the Baptist general convention of Texas.
When I moved to Austin, in 1998, I enjoyed the music of a few local bands, mostly at Antone’s or Saxon Pub. I really enjoyed catching Austin’s Soul-man Malford Milligan and singer song writer Stephen Bruton when I could. I was also involved with and attended a downtown church, Austin First Baptist, where I spent many years enjoying the choir music.
Matt and I began to swap recommendations of music for a few weeks texting back and forth trying out new stuff to us. That was a fun time and I learned about some great bands I was missing out on. Then one day I told him where I was getting the albums I was picking and the “muse” of the magazine, Jazzwise the 100 Jazz albums that shook the world”. We spoke about trying out the list starting from 100. Worst case, we go back to swapping out albums of our picking.
“WELL!!! The rabbit hole opened, and we are still heading down it.” The joy of a weekly conversation about something in common is great. As brothers we also have some very common shared experiences. Many of these topics collide weekly during our conversations. Jazz is life, and life is jazz.
I hope that your experience in this amazing music is as personally challenging and nearly as life changing as it has been for me. Join us as we talk about our likes and dislikes, new finds, and old friends.
